Using a piece of land in a particular way can have devastating impacts on its biodiversity particularly if it is endangered. Biodiversity planners are developing the Critical Biodiversity Areas map of South Africa and helping municipal spatial planners make sound and sustainable decisions when it comes to precious biodiversity resources. AWARD has been supporting both districts and local municipalities with the integration of biodiversity data into spatial plans so that spatial planners recognise the importance of Critical Biodiversity Areas in making land-use decisions.
