IWRM training for improved water security
in the Olifants River Catchment
AWARD has developed and offered an IWRM training course for DWS staff over four one-week modules. The course, which started in May 2017, is designed for technical staff currently involved in integrated water resources management (IWRM) in the Olifants Catchment.
The course has been specifically designed to support water resource protection, planning and compliance monitoring in the Olifants River Catchment. It is based on extensive experience from IWRM in the Inkomati CMA and work in the Olifants which has informed the requirements for an integrated and up-to-date Decision Support System for water resources management. The course is geared towards the use of the InWaRDS DSS to support planning, licencing, monitoring and compliance.
Participants are introduced to key IWRM concepts, then the manual manipulation of data and finally the use of the InWaRDS DSS for the same tasks. Modules 1 – 3 have been completed.
