The purpose of the Co-management Shared Learning Events is to share lessons and experiences on supporting co management as input towards improved co management policy and practice.
Three shared learning events have been hosted between 2018 and 2019, with the aim to share LNR co-management experiences widely and to establish stronger networks with communities with land claims, NGOs, CBNRM experts and professionals (e.g. government officials).
The most recent Co-management shared learning event was held in February 2019. The event was facilitated with representatives from various community property associations (CPAs) across the country. The event was attended by various community property associations (CPAs) across the country, including: Legalameetse Nature Reserve (LNR) CPA (the CPA host of the event), Blyde and Doornkop CPA (from Mpumalanga Province), Makuleke CPA (Limpopo Province), CPAs from KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and Khomani San CPA (from Northern Cape Province). There were also representatives of NGOs such as African Safari and an official from the Swazi Tourism Authority. Land claimant communities and guests were invited to share their experiences and lessons learnt from each other regarding:
- Co-management (in terms of governance and administrative arrangements),
- Beneficiation and development experiences – both financial and non-financial,
- Working and partnerships with government and private sector.
